GCSO Responds to Welfare Checks, Juvenile Pursuit and Theft Report
The Graham County Sheriff’s Office handled 23 incidents between Sept. 15 and the early morning hours of Sept. 16, according to the department’s incident report.
Among the more significant calls was a welfare check in Solomon Tuesday afternoon involving a 21-year-old woman and two young children. Deputies were told the woman had entered a room with the children and was believed to have access to a knife. Deputies made entry and separated the children from the woman. A 17-year-old later reported that the woman had taken pills. She remained awake, alert and breathing, and a crisis response was requested. The report states she had reportedly taken approximately 20 vitamins.
Deputies also conducted a welfare check at a Graham County residence after a school principal reported concerns about a 14-year-old. The report references an earlier welfare check and states the school had already filed a report with the Department of Child Safety.
Later Tuesday evening, deputies responded to reports of a juvenile riding a small motorcycle recklessly in the Solomon area. The incident escalated into a pursuit after the rider reportedly continued at a high rate of speed, performed wheelies and traveled through private property. The report indicates deputies followed the rider through the area, with a critical radio notification issued during the pursuit.
A separate theft report was taken at Safford Ranch after a woman reported that a $3,000 computer had been stolen several weeks earlier. She told deputies she believed a roommate who had recently moved out had taken the computer.
Other calls during the reporting period included traffic complaints, traffic stops, service of court papers, a runaway juvenile who was subsequently returned, a loud-music complaint and a report of someone attempting to open a resident’s front door.
