SAFFORD — The Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation is getting ready to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of celebrations.

This year’s events include:

  • Kick-off to National Hispanic Heritage Month at the Eastern Arizona College Lee Little Theater on Sept. 18
  • Dinner Show Extravaganza at the Eastern Arizona College Activity Center on Sep. 27
  • Dia de los Muertos Hispanic Heritage Car Show at the Eastern Arizona College South Campus on Nov. 1

The kick-off and car show are free to attend. Cost for the dinner show is $75 per person and tickets can be purchased by clicking here. The dinner show serves as the organization’s main fund-raiser for scholarships to EAC.

Hispanic Heritage Month runs Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

“The reason for the 15th of September through October, there’s like seven countries that celebrate their independence during that month. The ones on the 15th and 16th, Mexico is one of them, so that’s why we’re here,” said Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation Board President Bob Rivera.

Latin American countries that celebrate their independence during that 30-day period include:

  • Sept. 15 — Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua
  • Sept. 16 — Mexico
  • Sept. 18 — Chile
  • Sept. 21 — Belize
