SAFFORD — The City of Safford is getting ready to roll out its next support of small business.
During Monday’s meeting, the Safford City Council will hear about the Wayfinding Sign Project.
The idea for the signs was initiated by the Safford Downtown Association, coming out of the pandemic, as a way to help drive traffic to local businesses.
The signs have a retro look, modeled after signage popular in the early days of interstate travel in the 1950s and 1960s; and the large signs will direct travelers off the highway into Safford’s Downtown for shopping, dining and entertainment.
There will be four signs:
- On the southeast corner of Highway 70 and 6th Avenue
- On the southwest corner of Highway 70 and 5th Avenue
- On the southeast corner of Highway 70 and 5th Avenue
- On the southeast corner of Highway 70 and 4th Avenue
According to 2017 data from Arizona Department of Transportation, 20,499 vehicles per day drive Highway 70 in that area of Safford.
The council will hear the target date for installation during the meeting Monday at 6 p.m. in the Safford Library Programming Room.
It’s the second support of local business by Safford in as many weeks. On Aug. 12, Safford conducted a Community Conversation to connect local business owners and would-be entrepreneurs with local resources that can help grow or start a business.
