CLIFTON — The Gila Watershed Partnership and Greenlee Tourism Association are partnering for a big kick-off to summer.
GWP will conduct its quarterly San Francisco River Cleanup on Saturday, June 13, starting with a meeting at Riverside Park in Clifton at 8 a.m.
“The good news is, over the years, we have reduced the trash load,” said Dr. Sarah Sayles, executive director for GWP. “But I think the bigger issue is people aren’t renewing that trash load.”
Once the cleanup is finished, around noon, there will be a quick lunch and, at 1 p.m. the Greenlee Tourism Association will drop thousands of plastic ducks into the river under the Zorrilla Bridge, for the sixth annual Big Quack Duck Race.
The finish line is where the river reaches Railroad Bridge, near the floodgates.
Ducks can be purchased one for $10 or three for $25. Click here to purchase ducks.
The first duck to finish will receive $150, second $100 and third $50. The last duck to finish will receive $25 and a gift card to GWP greenhouse to be used during the annual Fall Native Plant Sale.
The Big Quack serves as a fund-raiser for the Greenlee Tourism Association.
