SAFFORD — Gila Valley Indivisible introduced itself to Graham County with a hike in Safford’s Downtown.
Members of the local group carried American flags and signs in opposition to the Trump administration in a march along Safford’s Main Street during Thursday’s lunch hour.
“I just hope that there’s people in our community that are just like they are; trying to find ways to make things better for working people and for small businesses on Main Street,” said David Himmelfarb.
Participants said reaction was positive from the Downtown shoppers who walked or drove past, with the exception of one man.
“One gentleman was not so happy with the signs, but he loved the flags,” Himmelfarb said.
Indivisible is a nationwide, grassroots, non-partisan movement that describes itself as “defending democracy and opposing fascism.”
Gila Valley Indivisible’s next event will be a watch party of a No Kings concert in New York City, featuring Bette Midler, Patti Smith and Rufus Wainwright.
The concert will be streamed as counterprogramming to President Donald Trump’s birthday celebration of a UFC event on the White House lawn, which will feature interim Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje of Safford vs. Ilia Topura of Spain.
