Filing date to run for local school boards approaching

SAFFORD — The Graham County School Superintendent is reminding the public that candidate packages to run for local school boards are available and can be turned in starting June 8.

Candidate packets may be picked up in the Graham County School Superintendent’s Office at 921 Thatcher Blvd. Safford, Ariz. The office is open Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Candidates must file a Statement of Interest prior to collecting any signatures. This document is included in the candidate packet.

The deadline for filing the nomination paperwork is July 6, by 5 p.m., for the Nov. 3 General Election. The last day to register to vote in the General Election is Oct. 5.

All school district governing board nomination paperwork must be filed in the Graham County School Superintendent’s Office. All terms are for four years unless otherwise noted, and the following seats expire Dec. 31:

  • Bonita School District No. 16 — Two seats
  • Ft. Thomas Unified School District No. 7 — Two seats
  • Gila Institute for Technology No. 2 (GIFT) — Three Graham County seats – Fort Thomas, Solomon and Pima   
  • Klondyke School District No. 9 — One seat
  • Pima Unified School District No. 6 — Two seats
  • Safford Unified School District No. 1 — Two seats
  • Solomon School District No. 5 — Three seats
  • Thatcher Unified School District No. 4 — Two seats
