SAN CARLOS — The first round of prescribed burns on the San Carlos Apache Reservation have been completed and the tribe announced another round will start after the Easter holiday.

Burning operations are taking place in:

  • Bylas
  • Peridot
  • Seven Mile
  • Gilson Wash
  • Beverly Hills

Thus far, almost 129 acres of fuel has been knocked down, with no issues during the burns.

San Carlos Apache Forest Resources Program said the goal is to reduce grass species by upward of 95 percent before the start of the wildfire season.

Burning operations will resume April 7, weather permitting.
