SAFFORD — Two individual Pride of Safford recipients have been awarded the honor a second time — this time as a couple.
The husband and wife duo of Carl and Carolyn Vessels were presented the Pride of Safford Award Thursday, March 26, for their service with numerous organizations.
“Carl and Carolyn have served in so many different capacities with devotion, generosity, and heart. Their steadfast commitment runs deep for the people of this community and is a true reflection as to why Safford is a great place to live, work, and visit,” the nomination read.
Both are members and past presidents of the Safford Lions Club, both serve as board members for St. Vincent de Paul, and both volunteer with Desert Cat Rescue and Sanctuary.
In addition, Carl as served as chaplain for the local hospice, and Carolyn volunteers to help the unhoused in Graham County.
Nominations for the Pride of Safford Award are being accepted. Nominations may be made in one of two categories:
- Pride in Service (individuals, groups)
- Pride in Ownership (businesses, home owners)
Nominees must live, work, go to school or do service in the City of Safford.
