SAFFORD — Gila Valley Samaritan Home is asking for the public’s help to help homeless children.
Area schools are reporting that at least 54 students are currently unhoused, and Samaritan Home is collecting items that can be placed in backpacks for the children to take after school is out, and used without preparation.
Items needed include:
- Pop-top cans of ready-to-eat Progresso soups
- Plastic jars of peanut butter
- Granola bars
- Real fruit chews
- Beef and cheese sticks
- Pop-Tarts
In addition, Samaritan Home is asking for travel-sized personal items for the older students, such as deodorant, soap, shampoo and conditioner.
Items can be dropped off at Gila Valley Samaritan Home, 114 W. 5th Avenue (Highway 70) in Safford. When donating, specify the items are for school children.
