SAFFORD — Graham County not being on the border with Mexico doesn’t mean it can’t access border funds.
On Monday, the Graham County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Local Border Support funding from Arizona Department of Public Safety, in the amount of $306,542.32, to purchase four new vehicles for the Sheriff’s Office.
A bit more than $115,000 will be used to purchase two fully-marked 4×4 patrol trucks, $120,000 for two unmarked 4×4 trucks for investigators, and $71,000 will be used to outfit the marked vehicles.
“With all the grants and the funding and things like that, we’ve been able to pretty well take care of our fleet with a lot of that stuff. Not a lot of that has to come out of general funds,” said Sheriff P.J. Allred.
In 2024, the Sheriff’s Office received $480,000 for five trucks. Another $100,000 came into the department, with $60,000 of those funds being used for FLOCK Camera payments.
In 2025, another $480,000 came in for all area law enforcement agencies. Pima, Safford and Thatcher split $150,000 and Graham County Sheriff’s Office used $300,000 for four outfitted trucks. An additional $100,000 came in that GCSO is holding in case a truck needs to be replaced.
