SAFFORD — Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition is offering to clubs and organizations free training on Narcan administration and information about fentanyl.

“Participants will learn about how opioids work, how to identify an overdose and how to administer Naloxone in case of an overdose,” the coalition wrote.

After the training is complete, the coalition will make Naloxone kits available for free.

To schedule a training, e-mail mmitchell@gcsac.com.

Naloxone, also known by the commercial name Narcan, can be used to rapidly reverse an opioid overdose, by blocking opioids’ impact on the brain, primarily stopping the brain’s depression of the respiratory system during an overdose.

Drugs classified as an opioid include heroin, fentanyl, oxycodone (OxyContin), hydrocodone (Vicodin), codeine and morphine.
