GLOBE — The Gila Valley has been doing its part to help the residents of Globe and Miami who are dealing with the aftermath of last weekend’s flooding.

Graham County Search and Rescue were the first to help, leaving SalsaFest last Saturday to help with rescue efforts. Then, after the water subsided, the Pima High School football and volleyball teams, and Thatcher Public Works crews, made the trip to help the communities in their cleanup efforts.

Now donations are being solicited to help Globe and Miami residents as they repair and rebuild.

The Safford Lions Club is conducting a paper drive — collecting nonperishable items that residents will need moving forward, such as paper towels, bathroom tissue, diapers, paper plates and more.

And Eastern Arizona College volleyball is collecting toiletries and cleaning supplies during this weekend’s matches. Donated items can be dropped off at Guitteau Gymnasium before Friday’s match at 7 p.m., and before Saturday’s match at 1 p.m.
