SAFFORD —While the federal government is in shut-down, citizens across the nation are preparing to protest the Trump administration’s policies — including in Safford.

The No Kings 2 Protest will take place Saturday, Oct. 18, from 8-10 a.m., on the corner of U.S. Highway 70 and 20th Avenue in Safford.

It will be the seventh protest against the Trump administration staged in the Gila Valley since President Trump took the oath of office in January.

The previous No Kings Protest took place on June 14.

“If you are upset about the policies of the current administration, this is a good way to express your opposition,” the Graham County Democratic Committee said in a prepared statement announcing the protest.

Participants are asked to bring water, sunscreen and signs.

Protests are planned for across the nation on Oct. 18, and the American Civil Liberties Union is providing rights and de-escalation training at No Kings: Protest Safety, Know Your Rights & De-Escalation Training |.

A recent poll by the Washington Post shows 47 percent of respondents blamed President Trump and Congressional Republicans for the governmental shutdown, while 30 percent blamed Democrats.

Meanwhile, the Vote Hub polling tracker shows President Trump is 10 points underwater when it comes to his approval rating. Forty-three percent of respondents say he’s doing a good job, while 53 percent disapprove of the actions he’s taken thus far.

Hundreds of No Kings 2 Protests are planned for across the United States on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025.
