SAN CARLOS —  A Type-3 Incident Management Team has assumed command of the Bronco fire, northeast of Phillips Park tank in Hilltop, on the San Carlos Apache Reservation, after the fire increased in size to 6,631 acres over the last 24 hours.

The fire is moving eastward through brushy, steep terrain, and is at 0-percent containment.

The fire was discovered Sunday, Aug. 3, at about 1 p.m. and was caused by lightning.

More than 100 personnel have been assigned to fight the fire, but weather is complicating efforts. Monsoon activity — including hotter-than-normal temperatures and humidity around 10 percent — is producing strong outflow winds, influencing the fire’s behavior.

Two wildfires are currently burning in Graham County.

The Ash Creek fire, just west of Basset Peak, was discovered Tuesday, Aug. 5, at about 4:43 p.m. It’s currently listed at 1.7 acres in size.

The Goodwin fire, north of Cobre Grande Peak, was discovered Wednesday, Aug. 6, at about 2:59 p.m. It’s listed at 70 acres.

Cause of the Ash Creek and Goodwin fires have not yet been determined.
