THATCHER — The Thatcher Town Council is back to full strength . . . for now.
During Monday’s meeting, the Town Council voted unanimously to appoint Ryan Allen to fill the vacant seat created by last month’s resignation by Heston Welker.
Allen, a life-long resident of the town who works for Allen Pump Co., said he hopes his tenure on the council will continue the work established by his predecessor.
“I would like to see the town flourish, bring in businesses and be financially responsible,” Allen said. “I would like to see the citizens be given what they need and what they deserve.”
Allen will take the oath of office at the Town Council’s August meeting, which was moved to Aug. 26 due to the council’s attendance at the annual League of Arizona Cities and Towns conference.
Allen’s term runs through December 2026.
Following Allen’s appointment, Mayor Jenny Howard thanked the other applicants — Brandon Homer, Denis Poirier and Erick Wright — and asked if any of them want to keep their applications and resumes on file with the town as there may be another vacancy coming to the council in the next month or so. Howard did not elaborate on who might be stepping down.
During the meeting, the council also voted unanimously to name Mark Vining the town’s vice mayor, a position also made vacant by Welker’s resignation.
