PIMA — Following an apparent hit-and-run that left a local woman severely injured, Pima Town Manager Vernon Batty said he plans to prioritize improvements to Tripp Canyon Road.

“People have come to the town back in 2008, 2009 to get a sidewalk there, but, obviously, we can’t just put a sidewalk there; there’s no room for one,” Batty said. “So there needs to be a design that includes land acquisition to widen the road.”

Batty said when he was named town manager in 2021, he was unsuccessful in obtaining a grant to improve the roadway, but will redouble efforts to secure the funding going forward.

Just before 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, a woman was found on the side of side of Tripp Canyon Road, the victim of an apparent hit-and-run. Batty said the woman has been hospitalized and is in the process of recovering from a severe head injury.

Pima Police Chief Diane Cauthen said details on the incident have not yet been officially released, as investigation is ongoing.
