A woman called the Sheriff’s office early Friday morning at approximately 4:45 AM to report a vehicle parked in her driveway with it’s lights shining through her window. She said that when she confronted the driver and told him to leave the property, he allegedly stated he had three guns with him and threatened to kill her.
The driver of the Yukon then left the property and parked on Highway 70 a short distance from the house. A sheriff’s deputy was assisted by two Safford Police officers to make high risk stop. The driver of the Yukon was ordered out of the vehicle at gun point and ordered to the ground. He told the officers that there was a passenger in the vehicle. Both men obeyed the officers’ commands.
The two men said that they had come from Globe to pick up a friend who had asked for a ride to Globe. The driver said that he met a woman at a party a few days ago and had kept in touch with her through Snap Chat. He said that there were a lot of underage drinkers at the party and he did not want to be associated with that so he left. He told officers that the woman had messaged him at 3:00 that morning asking him to give her a ride to Globe.
He told authorities that all he did was sit in the driveway with his lights pointed at the house while he waited for his friend to show up. Then a woman he does not know came out and started yelling at him to leave. He said that he tried explaining that he was there to pick someone up but the woman insisted that he leave. He claimed that she had threatened to shoot him if he didn’t leave. He denied telling her he had three guns and would kill her. No guns were found after searching his vehicle.
The passenger was allowed to drive the vehicle back to Globe and the driver was taken to jail for disorderly conduct. The girl he was waiting for apparently never showed up.
