Workforce development focus of next Graham Economic Partnership panel

THATCHER — The Gila Valley’s second economic development panel for 2024 will focus on education.

The Graham Economic Partnership is staging the panel, entitled Higher Education as an Economic Driver in Graham County, on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 6-8:30 a.m., at Eastern Arizona College.

Featured speakers include David Borofsky, executive director of the Arizona Community College Coordinating Council; Kevin Peck, dean of Business, Computers, ITE and Prison programs for EAC; and EAC President Todd Haynie.

Topics include what is being done to create the workforce needed in the local economy, what is Eastern Arizona College’s economic impact on southeastern Arizona, and what projects, programs and degrees are in EAC’s future.

The Graham Economic Partnership’s first panel — The State of Economic Development in Graham County — took place May 29 and featured information on economic development initiatives in Pima, Safford, Thatcher and Graham County; as well as updates from Freeport-McMoRan, the Graham County Chamber of Commerce, Valley Telecom  and the Small Business Development Center at EAC.

The featured speaker at the May panel was U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz.
