THATCHER — Registration has started for Gila Valley Children’s Chorale.

Cost is $110 for the fall semester, which begins Aug. 15 and runs through the first week of December. Rehearsals are once a week every Thursday evening.

There are three main groups that are part of the Gila Valley Chorale, which was founded in 2011.

The Children’s Chorale is open to all second- to eighth-graders and does not require an audition. This group is for children looking to improve their musical ability, their musical ear and their confidence in performing.

Gila Valley Chorale Illuminate is open to fourth- to ninth-graders who want to improve their music reading skills as well as harmony singing. GVC Illuminate is an auditioned choir and those interested need to submit a 30- to 90-second video of them singing a song of their choice.

Gila Valley Chorale Jazz is a high school girls jazz ensemble, which is also auditioned. Auditions are currently closed for the Fall semester.

All three groups perform regularly at community events such as Harvest Festival, Merry Main Street, Gila Idol and others. One of the highlights of the semester is filming a music video, which all groups will get to do this semester.

Students will get to record audio in a studio and take part in filming the video which will be released on YouTube later in the semester. The three groups will perform a final concert in December at the Lee Little Theater on the campus of Eastern Arizona College.

GVC Jazz director is Jenny Keith, while Ethan McBride serves as director of the Children’s Chorale and GVC Illuminate.
