Gila Valley polling places for Presidential Preference election set

SAFFORD — The date is set is the Republican and Democratic Presidential Preference elections, and now where to cast a ballot has been decided.

During Monday’s meeting, the Graham County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Elections Director Hannah Duderstadt’s plan to use the same vote centers as all other elections, with one exception.

“We have our sample ballots that will be going out, and that includes all the polling places. And we do have it listed in there that Bonita will be all mail,” Duderstadt said.

Voter turnout is typically smaller in a primary than a general election, but a very small turnout is expected for the March 19 Presidential Preference elections because only those registered as a Democrat or Republican can vote.

There will be seven candidates for Democrats to choose from, including incumbent President Joe Biden, Gabriel Cornejo, Frankie Lozada, Stephen Lyons, Jason Michael Palmer, Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson.

Republicans will be asked to choose from Ryan Binkley, John Anthony Castro, Nikki Haley, David Stuckenberg and Donald Trump.

The Republican ballot will also include four candidates who withdrew from the race after the ballots were printed. They include Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Asa Hutchinson and Vivek Ramaswamy.
