THATCHER — Eastern Arizona College Police, with assistance from Thatcher PD, were able to get a young man the help he needs before a situation turned tragic.

At about 9 p.m. Wednesday, campus police were informed of a young man in a vehicle with a weapon, threatening self-harm. Officers responded to the vehicle and were able to negotiate surrender of the weapon without incident.

The man, who school officials said was not a student, was transported to MGRMC for evaluation.

School officials issued a text alert to students, faculty and staff when campus police were first alerted and another upon the situation’s successful conclusion.

“We are grateful that EAC’s officers and the Town of Thatcher Police Department acted so quickly and were able to get this individual the help that was needed,” EAC President Todd Haynie said in a prepared statement.
