SAFFORD — Graham County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that residents can text 9-1-1 for emergencies.

The new text service is especially effective for those are in a situation where speaking on a phone could put them in further danger.

To send a text to 911, go to New Message and enter “911” in the To field. The message should be brief, contain the type of help needed and the address of the emergency. Push the Stay with the phone and be prepared to answer questions and follow instructions from the Emergency Services dispatcher.

Use plain English, as emojis may be blocked and short abbreviations are not always universally understood.

The text will not work as a group text and Text-to-911 will not work on roaming. A text or data plan is required to utilize the system.
