Lloyd Lebaron Black was born on December 5th, 1937, in Chihuahua, Colonia Dublan Mexico. He passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 87 surrounded by his loved ones, with his two sons holding his hand.
Lloyd’s mother was visiting relatives in Mexico at the time of his birth. He lived in Mexico for the first nine months of his life. He only visited Mexico one more time in 1962. Lloyd grew up in a very small town called Geronimo in eastern Arizona. He grew up in very humble circumstances. He worked hard as a child to help his family. He worked as a dishwasher in the elementary school kitchen from third grade until seventh grade. He stayed after school with his father, who was the janitor at the school. While the other kids had recess and lunch and went home after school to play, Lloyd stayed and helped his father clean the school. He did so without pay and without complaint. At a young age, Lloyd developed a great interest in automobiles and mechanic work. Dad loved old cars. He rebuilt his first motor as a teenager. It was a 1936 Ford. Lloyd graduated from Fort Thomas High School in 1955 and attended Eastern Arizona Junior College, first studying woodworking, then switching to automotive repair. He moved to Las Vegas in 1966 and started working for the city of Las Vegas spending most of his career as an auto mechanic. He retired in 1992 and was so proud of his retirement and the fact that he was retired for 32 years after working for 26 years. In 1969 he met Frances McFarland at a church function. They were married on December 13th, 1969, in the St. George Utah LDS temple. Their two sons were born over the next few years. Lloyd was a most generous and giving man. It was not uncommon for him to give up his Home in order for family members to have a place to stay. He was the original MacGyver who could fix or make anything. In addition to his love for his antique cars, Lloyd loved gardening. He would save seeds from a tasty watermelon so he could plant them in his garden later. He loved growing zucchini, tomatoes, and melons. Dad also enjoyed shopping at thrift stores. He never passed on the chance to buy a vintage Kirby vacuum or a nice button up western shirt! Another thing he loved was harvesting pine nuts from in piñon pine trees in the local mountains. He didn’t need much but he had everything. He dearly loved his family, and they love and will miss him. We know we will see him again because of the atonement of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father’s plan for eternal families.
Lloyd is survived by: two sons, Travis Lee Black (Cindy) and Lloyd Scott Black (Leana); and his brother, Glen Black; twin grandsons, Nathan and Tyler Black; and a granddaughter, Kallie Black Smelcer (Cameron). Lloyd was predeceased by: his beloved wife, Frances McFarland; his father, Roy Edward Black; his mother, Irene LeBaron Black; an older brother, Lynn Black; and his only sister, Fern Black Sutherlen.
Graveside services for Lloyd will be conducted Saturday morning, January 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at the Emery Cemetery.
