CLIFTON — Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest reports the Steeple fire, 2.5 miles southeast of Hannagan Meadow in northern Greenlee County, is at 90-percent containment.
The fire, which started Sunday, May 10, from a lightning strike, grew to 73 acres by Tuesday.
Full suppression of the fire was immediately ordered, with the Black Mesa Hot Shots, Type 1 and Type 3 helicopters assigned to battle the blaze.
Ground crews remain on mop-up duty, while the helicopters were routed to the Divide fire in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, in Apache County.
