SAFFORD — On Tuesday Graham County experienced its greatest number of new cases of COVID-19 in a single day in more than a month.

Graham County Health Department recorded 22 new cases Tuesday, with six of those cases coming from Saturday’s testing blitz at the county fairgrounds.

It’s the most new cases in a single day since the county reported 25 cases on Aug. 25. However, it’s only the fifth time in September that there were 10 or more cases in a single day.

More than half of the new cases — 12 — involved residents on the San Carlos Apache reservation. Four of the cases are located in Safford and there are three each in Pima and Thatcher.

That brings Graham County’s total to 843, with 147 of the cases considered active. There have been 25 deaths.

Meanwhile Greenlee County is on its fifth day in a row without a new positive case of coronavirus.

Greenlee County Health Department reports the county’s total at 59, with one active case. There have been two deaths.
