2 more deaths in Greenlee County, Graham County tops 4,200 cases

SAFFORD — Graham County Health Department announced Wednesday it would change the manner in which the location of new cases of coronavirus are reported — changing from city and town name to zip code.

The result will be the lack of breaking out cases between Pima, Fort Thomas and the Graham County portion of the San Carlos Apache Reservation, which all fall under the 85543 zip code; as well as those in Solomon, San Jose and Safford, which fall under the 85546 zip code.

The Health Department reported 32 new cases Tuesday, with 13 in the 85546 zip code, 11 in the 85543 zip code and six in the 85552 zip code.

There have been 974 new cases and five deaths recorded through the first 13 days of January.

Since the start of the pandemic, Graham County has experienced 4,202 cases and 56 deaths.

Greenlee County

Two more residents of Greenlee County — a resident of Clifton and a resident of Duncan, both over the age of 60 — have died as a result of COVID-19.

Greenlee County Health Department reported the deaths Tuesday evening. There have been three deaths over the last seven days and they bring the county’s total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to six.

Greenlee County also recorded one new case Tuesday, bringing the total number of new cases in January to 57. Since the start of the pandemic, Greenlee County has experienced 472 cases.
