It’s Valentine’s Day. Do you have a plan?

Still wondering what to do for Valentines day? Today’s the day and if you haven’t made plans with your significant other, you might be feeling a little bit panicked. Calm down and take a deep breath. Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

Don’t be predictable

Valentine’s Day can become very predictable. A study by Groupon found that one out of four couples say their Valentine’s Day rituals have become routine. Not only do 53 percent of the people in the poll feel that they celebrate the holiday the same way every year, but most claim they can predict exactly what their partner will get them.

Buy yourself some time

First of all, there’s no law that says you have to do something TODAY. Maybe you can buy yourself some time and announce that you’ve made plans for the weekend. Write something mysterious in a card, and then come up with a brilliant plan for the weekend.

Go Somewhere New

Grab a map of Arizona, cover your eyes and drop your finger on a random spot. Make arrangements to travel to the destination closest to where your finger lands. This is, of course, goes perfectly with the notion of buying yourself some time. You can present your partner with a card that says you’re going somewhere mysterious, then pull out the map, close your eyes and pick a destination. This is perfect for people who are totally incapable of planning ahead. Your finger just did all the planning.

Recreate your first date

There’s something inherently romantic about toasting the holiday where and how your love story began. No matter where you met, or how far away it is, you can find a way to recreate the place and circumstances of your first date. If you met in Paris, for example, you can recreate the setting in your home or find a French restaurant to bring back the memories.

Squeeze in some exercise

Maybe going for a walk with your partner or hitting the gym will shake up your usual routine. If you made a new year’s resolution to lose weight or get in shape, maybe today is the perfect day to begin.

Celebrate with breakfast

Instead of going to dinner on Valentine’s Day, celebrate with breakfast instead. Maybe it’s breakfast in bed, or maybe you can go out for breakfast. By the time you read this, however, it will probably be too late for breakfast.

Use Caution

Just be careful what you plan. You don’t want to be like the British guy who thought he was buying tickets to the Red Hot Chili Peppers only to fly to Ireland with his girlfriend and find out that your tickets are for the Red Hot Chili Pipers – a bagpipe band (Learn to read, dude).
