A Safford police officer was dispatched to Walmart on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 in reference to a couple who apparently paid for their merchandise with a counterfeit $100 bill. The officer was shown surveillance photos of a male and female who allegedly passed the fake money.
The couple apparently tried to use the fake bill at the self-checkout register. After scanning the merchandise, the male took the bill out of his wallet and attempted to feed it into the machine for payment. The machine would not take the bill. A sales associate assisted the couple and took the counterfeit money for payment. The value of the items totaled $106.35.
The incident remains under investigation.
