SAFFORD — The American Legion Auxiliary Post 32 is looking for volunteers to honor Gila Valley veterans.
On Saturday, the Auxiliary, along with members of Posts 32 and 95 (Solomon) and the Sons of the American Legion, will participate in Wreaths Across America.
Volunteers will place a wreath on the grave of all identified veterans in Graham County, which will stay in place until the second week of January.
“We approach it as a veteran is a veteran no matter what, no matter which war they fought in. So we go back to the Indian Wars,” said Kat Sticklin with the American Legion Auxiliary.
A short ceremony will take place at Safford Union Cemetery at 10 a.m., and then volunteers will be dispatched with wreaths to cemeteries across Graham County, including:
● Artesia Cemetery
● Ashurst Cemetery
● Bonita Cemetery
● Bryce Cemetery
● Central Cemetery
● Gila Valley Memorial Gardens
● Graham Cemetery
● Hubbard Cemetery
● Klondyke Cemetery
● Pima Cemetery
● Safford Union Cemetery
● San Jose Cemetery
● Sanchez Cemetery
● Solomon Cemetery
● Thatcher Cemetery
Last year, volunteers placed 1,127 wreaths in Graham County. This year the Auxiliary is planning to place 1,800 wreaths.
