Workers over billionaires focus of Labor Day protest

SAFFORD — The Gila Valley’s sixth protest against the Trump administration will take place on the day set aside to honor the working man.

The Graham County Democratic Committee announced the Workers Over Billionaires protest will take place Monday, Sept. 1, from 8-10 a.m., at the corner of U.S. Highway 70 and 20th Avenue in Safford.

“We’re turning Labor Day into a day of protest to demand (stopping) the billionaire takeover corrupting our government, protect and defend Medicaid, Social Security and other programs for working people, fully funded schools, healthcare and housing for all, stop the attacks on immigrants, black, indigenous, trans people, and all our communities and Invest in people,” the Graham County Democratic Committee said in a prepared statement.

Participants are asked to bring water, sunscreen and signs.

Previous Gila Valley protests since President Trump took the oath of office have taken place April 5, April 19, May 1, June 14 and July 17.
