A woman contacted police regarding a fraudulent Facebook post that advertised puppies for sale. The woman told the responding officer that she wanted to buy a puppy for her autistic son and found a Facebook post that had pictures of puppies for sale. She messaged the person selling the puppies on Facebook and the seller asked her to send a $50 down payment to a Venmo account. The seller messaged the woman back and said the money didn’t go through and asked her to send $100 to another Venmo account.

The woman then received a message saying the money had been received and gave her an address to pick up the puppy. When she went to the address the man who answered the door said that the woman who had allegedly sold the puppy had not lived there for a year. The man said that he didn’t know anything about puppies for sale. The woman tried messaging the seller but no longer got any response.

Police did a search for the name of the woman on the Facebook account and found that she had been in the Graham County Jail since August. Police told the victim that her only recourse was to contact the bank to try to get the money back.
