SAFFORD — Judges selected the top three entries in Saturday’s Cinco de Mayo Parade on Safford’s Main Street, staged by St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Selected as the Most Entertaining entry was Gila All-Star Cheer, with athletes performing stunts along the parade route. Founded in 2016, Gila All-Star Cheer is located in Thatcher.
Graham County School Superintendent Donna McGaughey’s vehicle was selected as Best Decorated.

And the Most Creative was the 50 Yarders, a horse riding club of families and friends. Each rider in the parade was wearing a magenta piece of clothing, and a riderless horse was included, in honor of original member Eleanor Abeyta.
The winners were awarded $100 each.
There were 19 entries in the parade, which finished at St. Rose of Lima for the annual celebration that included food, music and games for children.
Sponsors of the Cinco de Mayo Parade were Dr. Susan Jones-Gila Valley Clinic, Torrio Trucking and Michele Wilson Agency-Farmers Insurance.
