Winds can’t stop Spring Festival

SAFFORD — Strong winds could not stop the party.

Graham County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vance Bryce said the organization battled 40 miles an hour wind gusts Friday to put on a great Safford Spring Festival.

“We had a fantastic party, with Spring Festival this year,” he said. “I loved having the JJs Band from Phoenix. That’s the first time I know of that we had them in the Valley. We’re looking at booking them again; they really entertained the crowd.”

Friday winds forced a number of planned events to shut down, including the inflatable play items for children and Tabetha Arranda’s dip n’ sip painting classes, as well as force the fabric tops off the vendors pop-ups.

But by Saturday everything was back to normal and the crowd had fun shopping at the dozens of vendors, including tastings from four vineyards —Elgin Winery and Elgin Distillery, Strive Vineyards, Sonoita Vineyards and Wilhelm Family Vineyards — as well as sit in the shade in the Bud Light Seltzer beer garden to enjoy a cold drink and listen to music, including 2022 Gila Idol winner Frank Adams, Zaylie Windsor, Raymond Gomez, and Darryn Kamae and Our Island Style.
