Greenville, NC — The West Region champion, Willcox Little League, dropped Monday morning’s game to the New England champs, Cranston, Rhode Island, 3-0. The loss drops Willcox to the consolation bracket where they will now have to win four games in a row to reach the championship game.
New England opened the scoring in the 2nd inning with an RBI single from Olivia Graziano. They added 2 more in the third with a ringing single by Lylah Riley. That is all the scoring they needed to secure the win.
Willcox loaded the bases in the 5th inning but were unable to score after a double play ended the inning.
Hattie Macumber scattered 5 hits and the 3 runs over her five innings pitched. She struck out 7 and walked 2.
Isabella Marcano for Rhode Island threw a complete game shutout and gave up just 3 hits with three strikeouts and 1 walk.
Willcox will try to stave off elimination at 4pm Arizona time on Tuesday, August 6th against the Asia-Pacific champions from Bacolod City, Philippines.
The game is scheduled to air on ESPN2. There is expected weather that could change the schedule in the upcoming days but as of now the game is planned as scheduled.
