Willcox cancels season opener due to COVID-19

WILLCOX — Willcox Unified School District Superintendent, Kevin Davis, informed parents and caregivers on September 16th that staff and students may have been exposed to a positive case of COVID-19 on or around September 14th at Willcox High School.

The Cochise County Health Department has recommended that Willcox High School postpone any football practice and competition until September 30th. Practice may resume that day but the school has made the decision to cancel their October 2nd game against Safford because the team would be not practicing for 14 days prior.

Willcox’s first game is now scheduled to be October 9th again Valley Lutheran.

Safford Athletic Director, Toni Corona, said the school will look for a replacement opponent for the October 2nd date.
