PIMA — The idea of spreading kindness in the community appears to be catching on.
More than double the number of people at the first meeting of the Pima Community Kindness Project were at the group’s second meeting Thursday. And those new participants volunteered for a pair of projects in May.
The first is establishment of a welcoming committee.
“Our vision is that when someone new moves into the community to have someone go and welcome the family by taking them a little warm welcome bag that would have, perhaps, some flyers,” said Jodi Peck, Pima Community Kindness Project co-chair.
She also suggested including flyers and coupons from town businesses that wish to participate, as well as homemade baked goods.
The other initiative is designating May as Kindness Month in the town and spotlighting community members on the project’s Facebook page with a short version of the person’s history and a photo.
The first big project for the Pima Community Kindness Project will be a community swap meet on the high school football field May 1. That same day the school district will offer tours of the new buildings currently under construction.
Pima Community Kindness Project meets at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at Town Hall.
