WalletHub: AZ has 9th best unemployment recovery rate

With the U.S. gaining 431,000 jobs in March, below the previous month’s 750,000 jobs, WalletHub today released updated rankings for the States Whose Unemployment Rates Are Bouncing Back Most to illustrate which areas of the country have had the best recovery so far. 

In order to identify the states whose unemployment rates are bouncing back most, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on six key metrics that compare unemployment rate statistics from the latest month for which data is available (March 2022) to key dates in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Here are the highlights for Arizona:

    • 116,880 unemployed people in March 2022 vs 165,738 in March 2019;

    • 116,880 unemployed people in March 2022 vs 172,784 in January 2020;
    • 5th best recovery in the U.S.
       
  • -33.89% Change in Unemployment (March 2022 vs March 2020)
    • 116,880 unemployed people in March 2022 vs 176,788 in March 2020;
    • 8th best recovery in the U.S.
       
  • -42.73% Change in Unemployment (March 2022 vs March 2021)
    • 116,880 unemployed people in March 2022 vs 204,082 in March 2021;
    • 5th best recovery in the U.S.
       
  • -32.01% Change in Not Seasonally Adjusted Continued Claims (March 2022 vs March 2019)
    • 12,909 continued claims in March 2022 vs 18,987 in March 2019;
    • 20th best recovery in the U.S.
       
  • 3.3% Unemployment Rate (March 2022)
    • 20th lowest unemployment rate in the U.S.
