THATCHER – BY a five-to-one margin, Graham County voters agreed to increase the limit on how much Eastern Arizona College can spend.

Yes On Proposition 402 received 10,594 votes, while there were 2,871 no votes.

According to Graham County Elections officials, there are 978 votes that remain to be counted – 873 late early ballots and 105 provisional.

It also appears that Alma Flores may be the newest member of the Safford City Council. Flores leads with 1,839 votes, to Luke Chavez’s 1,282.

With the ballots remaining to be counted, the other contested races for school boards across the county appear to be too close to call.

Robert Olivar Jr., Alicia Talgo-Cadmus and Chris Duncan are leading for the three seats on the Fort Thomas School Board; JJ Alder, Clint Colvin and Melissa Batty are leading for the three seats on the Pima School Board; and Kevin England, Tyler Attaway and Jodi McGinty are leading for the three seats on the Safford School Board.

Thatcher School Board had two different races – in the race to fill the remaining two-year term for one seat, Travis Smith is winning over Elizabeth Henley; while for the three regular four-year terms, leading are Susan Hancock, Kate McCluskey and Debbie Chapman.

In the race for EAC Governing Board in District 4, Tina McMaster has a 700-vote lead over Bob Rivera and Eric Bejarano; while in the District 5 race, Vince Kieffer has a 170-vote lead over Brant Mattice.
