SAFFORD —The 11th annual Veterans and Families Resource Fair will take place Friday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Graham County Fairgrounds.
More than 40 service and benefit providers will be on hand to talk with veterans and their families; everything from federal and state benefit providers, medical and dental providers under the VA, and those who can help with pet services; to educational service providers, substance abuse counselors, those who help with homelessness and more.
Entry is free and lunch will be served.
Sponsors include the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties, American Legion Swift-Murphy Post 32, Safford Lions Club, Arizona Department of Veterans Services, Arizona Veterans Standdown Alliance and Graham County.
The Veterans and Families Resource Fair is one of a number of events, activities and services being offered in support of veterans over the coming weeks.
On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Safford Air Show will take place at Safford Regional Airport-1Lt Duane Spalsbury Field.
The Safford Air Show will feature a number of military aircraft and “showcases a variety of aircraft performances, demonstrations, and displays . . . the Air Show features high-flying aerobatics, precision maneuvers by expert pilots, and ground displays of vintage and modern aircraft.”
Admission is $15, $7 for children and seniors and free to veterans. Click here for tickets.
Nov. 9 will also be the first day of the sixth annual Field of Honor.
Residents place a flag on the lawn in front of Safford City Hall or the lawn in front of Graham County Courthouse, in honor of a family member or friend who served or is currently serving in any branch of the United State military. A tag naming the veteran or active-duty member of the military is attached to the flag pole.
On Monday, Nov. 11, starting at 10 a.m., the Gila Valley Veterans Day Parade will take place on Safford’s Main Street. Click here to register an entry in the parade.
Then, at 11 a.m., the Veterans Day presentation will take place on the steps of the Graham County Courthouse.
Following the event at the Courthouse, free lunches will be served to veterans at both American Legion Swift-Murphy Post 32 and the Graham County Senior Center.
