United Way makes more than $688K available across Graham, Greenlee counties in March

SAFFORD — March was a busy month for the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties.

On Wednesday, the local United Way announced its regular monthly grant recipients for March, along with its large Cycle 1 grants and event sponsorships.

A total of $688,348.61 was granted for nine large Cycle 1 grants, five monthly grants and two sponsorships.

Recipients include:

Cycle 1 Grants

Education

  • $81,200 — Graham County School Superintendent for the Supporting and Sustaining Teachers 8 program
  • $20,250 — Safford Fire Department for the Fire Training Academy

Health

  • $107,062 — Town of Duncan for a skate park and pickleball court
  • $40,732.71 — First United Methodist Preschool/Daycare Center’s fire safety system
  • $7,688 — Dan Hinton Accommodation School for the Hear and Thrive Comprehensive Hearing Screening program

Economic Stability

  • $142,515 — Solomon Elementary School for the Environmental Improvement project
  • $125,000 — Town of Duncan for a dump truck and backhoe equipment
  • $71,898.81 — Pima Police Department for school resource officer assistance: $71,898.81
  • $70,819 — Town of Duncan for the General Plan Update

Health

  • $4,65.73 — Our Neighbors Farm and Pantry for the Drug Court Evening Farm program
  • $1,564.99 — Our Neighbors Farm and Pantry for repair of the Dosatron Fertilizer Unit
  • $1,098.97 — Gila Valley Samaritan Home for laundry service supplies

Economic Stability

  • $5,000 — Executives Partnering to Invest in Children for the Childcare Solutions Design Lab

Sponsorships

  • $4,000 — MGRMC Foundation for the Susie Hodges Memorial Golf Tournaments
  • $3,178.40 — Gila Valley Samaritan Home for the Community Resource Fair

Applications for large grants in Cycle 2 will open April 1, close May 1 and be voted on by the United Way board in June.

The United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties makes grants to nonprofit, educational and governmental organizations thanks to donations from Freeport-McMoRan Foundation and Freeport employees; employees of the City of Safford, Town of Thatcher and Graham County; and individual donors.
