United Way announces January grant recipients

SAFFORD — The first round of grants for 2025 from the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties has been announced, with education receiving the lion’s share.

A total of $38, 321 was granted to multiple organizations in January, encompassing 10 projects and two sponsorships.

Recipients include:

Education

  • $5,000 — Morenci High School for the Climate and Culture Club program
  • $4,950 — Thatcher Middle School for the Eagle Challenge Crushed program
  • $4,140 — Fort Thomas Unified School District for the Robotics Tech Core program
  • $3,298.80 — Safford High School Art Class for art show materials
  • $788.80 — Solomon Elementary School for a 3D Printer for education

Health

  • $5,000 — Thatcher Unified School District for tennis teams’ ball machines
  • $1,584.67 — Gila Valley Samaritan Home for cleaning supplies
  • $1,370 — Dan Hinton School for an AED device

Economic Stability

  • $2,224.50 — Our Neighbors Farm & Pantry for a pollinator garden irrigation project
  • $1,334.23 — Our Neighbors Farm & Pantry for water catchment system repairs

Sponsorships

  • $5,000 — Nathaniel’s Childhood Cancer Foundation for the Color Run event
  • $5,000 — Gila Valley Disc Golf Club for the Ducks on the Pond and Desert Chains Classic tournaments

The United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties makes grants to nonprofit, educational and governmental organizations thanks to donations from Freeport-McMoRan Foundation and Freeport employees; employees of the City of Safford, Town of Thatcher and Graham County; and individual donors.
