SAFFORD — The United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties announced its grant recipients for February, with the health sector receiving the lion’s share.
A total of $40,964.40 was granted for nine projects and two sponsorships.
Recipients include:
Education
- $5,000 — Eastern Arizona Science Initiative for the three-day Summer Science Camp
- $4,000 — Pima Junior High School for the Ripple Effect Club
- $3,647.66 — Dorothy Stinson School for first grade decodable books, cubbies and math manipulatives
Health
- $5,000 — Aravaipa Watershed Conservation Alliance for operational funding
- $5,000 — Thatcher High School for the Eagle Challenge Initiative
- $4,310 — Graham County Search and Rescue for swiftwater training
- $2,340 — Graham County Search and Rescue for operational equipment
- $1,667.94 — Mt. Turnbull Elementary School for pickleball equipment for Physical Education
Economic Stability
- $3,089 — Gila Valley Samaritan Home for service advertising efforts
Sponsorships
- $4,000 — Safford Fire Department for the third annual First Responders Golf Tournament facility fund-raiser
- $2,910 — Eastern Arizona Museum and Historical Society for two community fund-raiser events
The United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties makes grants to nonprofit, educational and governmental organizations thanks to donations from Freeport-McMoRan Foundation and Freeport employees; employees of the City of Safford, Town of Thatcher and Graham County; and individual donors.
