Top fire at 75-percent containment

SAN CARLOS — The latest wildfire on the San Carlos Apache Reservation appears to be holding at slightly less than 3,300 acres.

The Top fire, east of San Carlos, near Route 6 north of U.S. Highway 70, is at 3,292 acres and is 75-percent contained.

San Carlos Apache Forestry Resources said fire crews are being converted to Type-4, with effort focusing on maintaining the perimeter of the fire and mop-up work 300-feet inside.

The fire, discovered June 8, is believed to be human caused.

Forestry Resources also announced Thursday it is suspending burn permits and prohibiting all burn activity until further notice.

The Top fire is the fourth wildfire on the reservation since May. The 1,778-acre Toyo fire was discovered May 10, the 60-acre Gopher fire was discovered May 18, and the 15-acre Rocky fire was discovered May 23.
