THATCHER — The Gila Valley finally has a voice when it comes to road improvements and repairs.

As one of his last actions before leaving office, former Gov. Doug Ducey appointed Thatcher Town Council member Jenny Howard to serve as the Dist. 4 representative on the Arizona Department of Transportation Board.

Howard’s district includes Graham, Gila and Pinal counties.

While her appointment is still pending state Senate confirmation, Jon Brodsky, Communications and Public Involvement director for ADOT, said Howard can serve up to a year before the confirmation requirement must be fulfilled.

She’s scheduled to take part in her first board meeting Jan. 20 in Sierra Vista.

Graham County has just two projects included in ADOT’s five-year capital improvements plan, both in 2023. Graham has $2 million allocated to complete a bridge repair on U.S. Highway 70 at milepost 298, and $10.9 million for 9-miles of road rehabilitation on State Route 266.

There are currently no projects planned for 2024-27.
