THATCHER — Thatcher Town Manager Heath Brown thinks he has the solution to people illegally parking around La Casita restaurant, and creating traffic hazards on U.S. Highway 70.

On Monday, Brown asked the Town Council for permission to move forward on a plan for the town to landscape the space between the restaurant and the highway, with items such as trees, large rocks and possibly benches, to prevent people from parking on the sidewalk and jutting onto the roadway.

“I know people will be disappointed in losing the spaces, those that like to park there, but I think it will look really, really good. Which will be a benefit — an additional benefit,” Brown said.

With direction from the council, Brown said he will reach out to the designer for the town’s round-abouts to come up with a landscaping plan, which will compliment the designs for Thatcher Commercial Plaza, which is located across the highway.

After the designs have been submitted, and the town and owners of La Casita agree on the look, town Public Works crews will begin the work.

Brown anticipated it would take about three months to get the new landscaping in place.
