THATCHER – The Town of Thatcher and City of Safford are incentivizing residents to participate in the U.S. Census.
Thatcher residents who complete the Census could win a big-screen TV, a $500 gift card or an Apple iPad.
To participate, residents must provide proof of completion by bringing to Town Hall their completion number, a screen shot of their confirmation page after filling out the Census online or a photo of their mailing envelope.
“I won’t stop taking proof of completion as long as people are still able to complete the Census,” Thatcher Town Manager Heath Brown told Gila Valley Central, “and then I’ll probably give it another week after that.”
Brown said residents can drop off their proof at the Town Hall drive-through, in the town’s night dropbox or e-mail their proof to mmortensen@thatcher.az.gov. Residents must include their name and contact information.
In Safford, the city’s library is partnering with the Safford Downtown Association to offer weekly prizes for those who complete the Census.
This week, Safford residents who complete the Census could win three prize packages, including a $50 gift card to El Charro restaurant, a $25 gift card to Ginaveve’s Marketplace and a $20 car-cleaning package from Shining Times Carwash, and a $25 gift card to Safford Dairy Queen and a $20 car-cleaning package from Shining Times Carwash.
To be eligible, residents must complete the Census online at My2020Census.gov and screenshot the confirmation page, post the screenshot on the City of Safford 2020 Facebook page, like and comment. Winners will be drawn April 8.
Sending that screenshot to census2020@saffordaz.gov will also get Safford utility customers a one-time $5 credit on their next utility bill.
