THATCHER — A Midwestern staple may soon be coming to Thatcher.

During Monday’s meeting, the Thatcher Town Council unanimously voted to direct staff to start negotiations for a Culver’s restaurant to be located at the Thatcher Commercial Plaza, formerly the Red Lamp Mobile Home Park.

Culver’s will be the second business in the plaza, joining American Southwest Credit Union, which should begin construction this spring.

The Thatcher Culver’s will be owned by a group that owns and operates a number of the restaurants, with locations in Sierra Vista, Green Valley and Tucson, as well as Georgia and the Chicagoland area.

“We’re looking to develop another four units in the next 12 to 18 months, and we’re excited . . . to have a possibility of being in Thatcher, Arizona. We’re happy to be here,” said Kevin Adams, the franchisee.

Culver’s, known for its ButterBurgers, cheese curds and frozen custard, was started by the Culver family in Sauk City, Wisc., in 1984.

Culver’s currently has 1,000 restaurants in 26 states.
