THATCHER — The Town of Thatcher made a move to quicken development of the new American Southwest Credit Union branch on the old Red Lamp lot.

“The plan was going to be that the town would take care of a majority of the infrastructure on site, and then we would be reimbursed by those that were going to buy lots,” said Thatcher Town Manager Heath Brown.

However, due to other construction commitments by the town, as well as potential lot buyers backing out, which Brown noted were Eagles Roost and Kainoas restaurants , the Town Council agreed with Brown’s recommendation to simply sell an unimproved lot to the credit union and allow the credit union to include onsite infrastructure in its construction.

Despite the change, the town will still perform improvements and infrastructure development in areas that involve public rights-of-way.

Brown said it’s expected American Southwest Credit Union will start construction of its first branch in Graham County by April 2025.
