Thatcher experiences first COVID-related death

SAFFORD — A Thatcher resident has died as a result of COVID-19.

The Graham County Health Department announced the death Thursday evening. The victim is described as being over the age of 65.

That brings Graham County’s total number of coronavirus deaths to 20, with 16 of those deaths occurring in the last month.

The Health Department also announced 10 new positive cases, bringing the county’s total to 584, with 349 cases still active and 215 recovered.

The San Carlos Apache Tribe reported 11 new cases Thursday. That brings the tribe’s total to 645, with 135 active, 501 recovered and nine deaths.

Greenlee County is now up to seven days without a new case of COVID-19. The Greenlee County Health Department reports the number of cases holding at 58, with 14 active, 42 recovered and two deaths.
