THATCHER — It will be another month until the Thatcher Town Council is at full strength.

During Monday’s meeting, the council opted to delay appointment to fill a vacant seat until the next meeting, July 21, so the council may interview the candidates.

Councilman Randy Bryce said he favored the delay in order to learn more about the intentions of the candidates.

“Important to me is prior service to the town,” Bryce said.

Seeking appointment are Ryan Allen, Brandon Homer, Denis Poirier and Erick Wright.

The vacancy has been created by the resignation of Vice Mayor Heston Welker, who purchased a new home that is not within town limits.

“It’s bitter-sweet,” Welker said. “I’ve really enjoyed my time on and being able to serve in the community, especially with the awesome people we have at the Town of Thatcher and on the council in general. So I’m definitely going to miss it.”

The Town Council also decided to delay selection of a vice mayor until July 21, to give the appointee a voice in the process.
